Past Half Moon Bay south on Hwy One is a hidden beach called Tunitas Creek. To reach the beach, park alongside the road and find a little dirt trail that will wind you down underneath the highway, across a creek, and open up to a wide expansive beach coast. Tunitas Creek is a great camping spot and sometimes offers surf on good days. The beach feels secluded due to its "inconvenient" access, however- watch out for parking tickets on Tunitas Creek road (especially on a day where there may be a lot of campers). Also, it's a pack in pack out camping style. So please, for the sake of nature and other beach goers- bring all your trash back with you!
If you're heading down the 1 from SF, make sure to stop by Traveler for some camping goods. We've got handy coffee French press, multi-tools, informational (and weatherproof) playing cards, mexican blankets, and even a briefcase BBQ! Grab some snacks from the nearby Grocery Outlet and hit the road!
Tunitas should be another 30 minutes down the road without traffic. Make it before the sun goes down to set up camp and catch the sunset. Have a good time!
